THE STORY BEHIND THE CENTRE

The idea for The Phoenix Centre Cornwall has grown naturally over time, shaped by real life and a simple intention: to create a calm, grounded space where people can breathe, settle, and be themselves without pressure. A place where people can come together when they need a sense of community, and where others can choose quiet, one to one support if that feels safer.

My reason for creating this centre is closely tied to my own experience of going through cancer and living in continued recovery. That period changed every part of my life. It affected my body, my confidence, my creativity, and the way I understood myself. There were many moments when I felt unsure of who I was becoming, and unsure of how to move forward.

I often wished there was somewhere calm to go. A place where honesty was welcome, and where there was no pressure to be positive or strong before you were ready.

Although cancer is part of my story, the heart of this centre reaches further. Life brings moments that take us off our feet in many different ways: illness, loss, overwhelm, major transitions, emotional fatigue, and the quiet struggles people carry without speaking about them.

Alongside lived experience, the work offered at the centre is shaped by many years of training and practice. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework. I am fully insured to offer counselling and holistic practices, and I place strong emphasis on professionalism, safety, and working with care, consent, and clear boundaries. My work also includes crystal work, Usui Reiki, and energy-based approaches, woven thoughtfully alongside therapeutic and supportive practices. These modalities are offered gently and intuitively, guided by what feels appropriate for the individual rather than a fixed method.

The centre is also informed by earth-based traditions and cyclical frameworks, including seasonal work aligned with the Wheel of the Year and reflective practices inspired by the medicine wheel. These ways of working honour rhythm, nature, and the understanding that healing moves in cycles rather than straight lines.

My own experience has taught me that healing rarely happens quickly. It tends to happen slowly and quietly, in small pieces that gradually come back together. For me, this is what the Phoenix represents. Not a dramatic leap into a new life, but the steady rebuild that happens after everything falls apart

The Phoenix Centre Cornwall is being shaped with this understanding. It will offer emotional and vibrational support, integrative psychotherapy, reflective workshops, group sessions, collaborative events, and a gentle space for those affected by cancer as part of a wider offering.

Above all, the centre is for anyone who needs steadiness. Some people will want community around them. Others will want privacy and quiet. Many will want a mixture of both. All of those paths will be respected and supported.

This space is built on compassion, lived experience, and the belief that healing works best when people feel safe, welcomed, and free to move at their own pace. The Phoenix Centre Cornwall is being created as a place to rest, reconnect, and gradually rise again in a way that feels true to each person.
