IMBOLC

A quiet threshold

Imbolc falls at the midpoint between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox. It arrives while winter is still very present, and yet something has already begun to shift.

The days are slowly lengthening. Beneath the surface, the Earth is stirring. Sap begins to rise, roots awaken, and life starts to reorganise itself long before there are any visible signs of spring. Imbolc is not about outward change yet, but about what is quietly gathering underneath.

Energetically, this is a time of preparation rather than action. The deep stillness of winter has not fully released us, but the pull towards movement is beginning to be felt. It is a threshold moment, where rest and renewal meet the first stirrings of growth.

Imbolc invites listening. Ideas, insights, and intentions may surface as small sparks rather than fully formed plans. This is not a time to force clarity or push things forward, but to notice what is emerging and allow it the space it needs to develop.

In ceremony, Imbolc offers an opportunity to reflect on what has carried through the winter with you. What feels worth tending as the year unfolds. What no longer fits and can be gently released. The work here is subtle, but it matters.

Beginnings at Imbolc are often quiet and tender. They do not announce themselves loudly, and they do not demand immediate action. How these early stirrings are met, with patience, honesty, and care, shapes everything that grows later in the year.
